‘Kindred’ Canceled at FX After One Season

Published: Wednesday 1st Feb 2023 by Rashad

Despite ‘Kindred‘ being one of FX’s most talked about new series, Tuesday (January 31) brought with it the announcement the critically acclaimed show will not be churning out a season 2.

Details inside.

The time period drama, based on Octavia E. Butler’s novel of the same name, just premiered December 13, 2022, but has already been given the axe.

Opened to largely positive reviews, the series – which ended its inaugural season with quite the cliffhanger – starred Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Ryan Kwanten, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, David Alexander Kaplan, Sophina Brown, and more. It told the story of a burgeoning TV writer (Johnson) who experiences unexpected occurrences of time travel from 2016 to a 19th century slave plantation in the American South.

While FX has not deployed an official statement on the matter, ‘Kindred’ showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is expected to shop the science fiction show to other networks as he reportedly envisioned multiple seasons to tell its full story.

Hopefully another network picks this up. I enjoyed this and looked forward to how it would continue to tell this interesting story. The cliffhanger was great! Shame on FX, but it seems like niche programming is being pruned a LOT these days…

Seriously? Cancelled? One of the best shows on. So different. Tired of zombie movies and v**** outbreaks. I can’t believe it but you keep American Horror Stories on for years. Kindred was so fresh and new. It’s really a shame. I hope another network picks it up.
